With the school year kicking off, the commencement of clubs and councils follow shortly behind. This year at St. Augustine, the DECA program will be running for the second year since starting in 2016-2017. Over 80 students from St. Augustine will be practicing and train in preparation for the competitions in the fall.

The DECA program is a competitive extracurricular competition based on business. Secondary school students begin at competing at a regional level, the provincial level and international level can be achieved if the student performs sufficiently. Students are pit up against other students of the respective grade, competition is always fierce and intense; all competitors yearn to be on the international stage.  DECA creates professional partnerships and experiential learning opportunities for students which will develop confidence and leadership in a business community.

This is a largely beneficial opportunity for students that appeal to the business field or would like to attempt to enter the business field. Role-plays, business proposals, case-scenarios, and tests are ways in which the competition will take place. All participants are given the freedom to choose the field of business which they will study and practice. Some of these fields include Accounting Applications, Entrepreneurship, Business Finance and Human Resources Management. Weekly, the St. Augustine DECA team holds meetings led by co-presidents Pascal Fong and Joshua Chen; as well as teacher administrator, Ms. Brizzi. The program has already started for the 2017-2018 year, we hope that all students at St. Augustine indulge in this reputable opportunity.
