This autumn, ghosts, and bats are not the only aspects frightening individuals in our community. Hunger has become a drastic threat, especially for families who struggle to place food on their tables. This is why, from Monday, October 2nd, to Thursday, October 19th, the members of St. Augustine’s social justice council, Matt 25, came together to host the school’s annual Thanksgiving food drive. In partnership with the ‘Free the Children’ organization, this ‘We Scare Hunger’ initiative aims to grant students the opportunity to give back to society during a ‘holiday’ when food and assistance are greatly needed; the month of Thanksgiving. By working together, these young leaders donated over 500 cans, allowing members of our community to enjoy October with healthy, nutritious meals and produce on their table. The best part? Student generosity proves to be rewarding in more ways than one. In addition to ‘being the change’ in the lives of many, the class that donated the greatest quantities of canned food was rewarded with a delicious donut breakfast. Indeed, together we ‘can’ and, through this amazing food drive, our school helped to provide for families across our community.
