Along with the rest of Ontario, St. Augustine will be participating in Purple Shirt Day on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. Purple Shirt Day is the day people are asked to wear purple in support of child abuse prevention. Children’s Aid societies are working with Boards of Education this month to encourage people to support this cause. Child abuse is a terrible thing and no child should ever endure or experience this. By wearing this colour, we hope to raise awareness to the right that children should be able to grow up in a safe environment. This day is truly meaningful, as it highlights some of the silent issues faced by children in households all around the world. If you know or suspect that a child is in danger or in need of protection, call the Children’s Aid Society, where there is always someone to help you out. We look forward to seeing everyone wearing purple in support on this purposeful day. Don’t forget to use the official hashtag, #IBREAKthesilence to express what this day means to you.
