What do royalty, athletes, motivational speakers, and high school students all share? The answer is simple; a collective desire for change. On September 28th, 2017, an impressive lineup of speakers came together to motivate and inspire crowds at this year’s WE day in Toronto. Students from schools all across Ontario were invited to share their passionate beliefs in social justice at this star-studded event, hosted by Grammy Award winner Kelly Clarkson and sponsored by the Free the Children Organization. Among the lineup were the Prime Minister’s brother, Alexandre Trudeau, singer, Sabrina Carpenter, speaker, Spencer West, athletes Penny Oleksiak and Andre De Grasse, and last, but not least, Prince Harry of Wales. With encouraging speeches, beautiful videos, and catchy songs, the students invited (including members of St. Augustine’s own social justice club, Matt 25) spent this day with laughter and fun. Interested in attending? The tickets cannot be purchased, only earned through dedication and service. We Day, after all, as co-founder Craig Kielburger says, “is about celebrating a generation of empowered youth, who have come together in the hope that the world can be better a place.”
