It’s the beginning of a new era. The 2018 St. A’s Boys’ Volleyball team has returned from the off-season and are hungrier than ever for that much desired trophy. The boys started the season hot, winning their first two home games, defeating each team by margins of 20 points or above. Freshman middle-hitter Treshan Pitigala had this to say on what he thought about the team’s first two home game victories: “The game went to plan as we came out confident, knowing we were going to win. Everyone was on point, we all played our positions exceptionally well.”
The boys were able to go on to win the next 10 road games straight without breaking a sweat, led by team captain Erik Siksna, and head coach Adam Elkaim. The boys showed great amounts of teamwork and athleticism through all 12 games, never backing down from any challenge, and never letting the opponent’s trash talk get inside their heads. After their road tournament, I asked some of the boys on how they felt going into their games, and their individual thoughts on how they thought the team played.
“The biggest challenge we faced was just communication in the beginning of the season. We picked ourselves up during practice and it really showed a positive impact on our games. I believe that our team is ready to go into the playoffs, and hopefully making OFSAA!”
– Mario Tanuous, Grade 12, Middle
“We’re really happy with how to regular season went and how we were able to stay focused on the way to our undefeated record. Winning a couple of big games early in the season against other top teams was key in boosting our confidence for the rest of the season. Our playoff games will definitely push us more than we’re used to, but I’m confident that we’ll be successful if we play to our potential and have doing it.”
– Erik Siksna, Grade 12, Team Captain
The boys now rank as the top seed in the YRAA Tier 2 rankings with a record of 12 wins and 0 losses. Playoffs begin on November 5th, 2018. For more information on the boy’s volleyball team, stay tuned to Titan Times for more to come!
