St. Augustine is filled with many initiatives run by students, including the Birthday Kits. The functional life students working at the Birthday Kits booth are enthusiastic about selling snacks and locker decoration kits. During all B and C lunches students can purchase these goods not only to treat themselves, but also to engage the functional life students into the busy lives of other Titans. In order to get a better understanding of the purpose of Birthday Kits, an interview was held with the members of the booth.
Q: What is the main purpose of the Birthday Kits booth?
A: We wanted to expose our students to a real-life situation, since it is good exposure to pre work skills and social skills.
Q: Where does the money you earn go?
A: All proceeds go to the functionality programs and the resources that will meet the educational needs of our students.
Q: How do all of the students get involved?
A: Every student has a role at the booth whether it is selling snacks, setting up the booth, managing cash, greeting students, counting/ recording sales, making posters, and assembling kits. Students get the chance to take on different roles to get the full experience.
Q: Is there a message you want to deliver to students through the treats and birthday kits sold?
A: We want our functional life students to have a presence and integrate them at St.Augustine. Their involvement gives them experiences that everyone has and allows them to learn in a fun, educational way.
Q: Why should every student visit the Birthday Kit booth?
A: “It’s the best thing!” – Joey
A: Students can interact with the functional life students and purchase student-made items.
