Without learning from mistakes that were made, you can never improve and be successful. After losing the game to St. Theresa of Lisieux CHS, Bayview SS, and Jean Vanier CHS, the junior girls’ basketball team learned from their mistakes and made improvements. Their hard work paid off, as they won against Alexander Mackenzie High School on October 18th by three points!
At first, the Titans were on a lead, but until the third period, our positions changed and they were leading us by 1 point. Even with the tight score, the Titans never gave up and they successfully won the game with a final score of 22:19. Throughout the game, many careless mistakes were made, like bad passes and not getting the rebounds, but they still managed to pull this game off as a team!
After the game, I decided to interview some of my teammates on their thoughts of the game:
Q: Now that the team is on a winning streak, what do you think is the reason you are winning?
A: I believe the reason we are winning is because we push ourselves to do better, as individual players, made on court, we do our best to fix it and come back stronger. We also give each other advice to improve and to not create the same mistake again.

Q: What do you think you guys still have to improve on?
A: We need to actually want to win at the start of the game and not just wait until we’re losing to start to play well.
– Nicole Ho, Grade 10
Q: What are your thoughts on the season?
A: It was a learning season. We have quite a few new girls on the team who have never played high school basketball before. This meant that the girls had to adapt to a new team dynamic along with learning brand new skills and plays. The season is traditionally very short, and this creates a very steep learning curve for all players. It was good to see, however, that the team had good sportsmanship, were kind and considerate to each other, and wanted to work together. I think if the team had been more dedicated to training – attendance, I have to admit, was an issue at practice – we would’ve been able to improve our systems execution (plays on court) as well as improve our overall general skill set by challenging each other in a whole team setting.
