On Tuesday, November 20th, 2018, a select group of students at St. Augustine Catholic High School attended a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at the Koerner Hall in the Royal Conservatory of Music. At the conference, were industry-leading physicist Brian Greene, and six time Emmy Award winning, Alan Alda.
The students – led by Ms. Freda and Ms. Treap – left the school at 1:00pm and enjoyed a chilling bus ride to downtown Toronto. The group arrived at the Royal Conservatory forty-five minutes early and enjoyed some free time at the elegant building. The students were ushered into the Koerner Hall at approximately 3:00 pm, where they enjoyed the interesting 2-hour lecture. By the time it was all finished, it was past 5:00 pm and the cold bus-ride to the school brought us back at 6:45 pm.
The conference covered a wide range of topics from the concept of physics in space, to how we should work to be able to better communicate between the science world and our everyday lives. Greene discussed a variety of concepts to represent the ripples in time and space, and how interest in science and technology has grown over time. It was an exciting experience with a lot of learning opportunities that taught us a lot about the importance of science in our lives and the potential of job opportunities it opens up for us.
