After the senior team had won the 2018 YRAA Championship (while going undefeated in the process), the Titans had unfinished business to take care of. It was time for the girls to step up. After finishing with a 6-4 record in the regular season, the girls were headed to an invitational tournament at Vaughan SS. The girls managed to fight there way to the finals, meeting up against familiar rival, the Mulock Ravens.
A bit of backstory about Mulock. The Ravens have faced off twice against the Titans, both being critical and pivotal moments in the Titans’ seasons. The first being in the field hockey finals, Titans vs Ravens. The Ravens defeated the Titans 1-0, sending the Titans back home with a disappointing finish to a spectacular season. The second matchup occurred in the boys’ volleyball semi-finals. Mulock had just come off of an upset, defeating the 1 seed Aurora Eagles to advance to the semi finals. The Titans were able to take down the Ravens to advance to the finals, and claiming the chip.
“This tournament could not have gone any better for us, and it’s not even just because we won.” said team co-captain Ashley Kam. “ I think the best part was seeing us play with so much confidence, energy, and most importantly, we did all of this as a team. We were very effective in siding out and kept the momentum on our side through serving, big blocks, and a very strong, offense, allowing us to beat some pretty tough teams. Seeing ourselves play the way we did, I think will push us to play even better and work even harder for the playoffs, which we’re all super excited for!”
Mulock would once again fall to the undeniable team strength of the Titans, with the Titans winning in a 2-0 sweep. Great job girls! We can’t wait for playoffs!
