Ever wonder how much a cookie costs at the cafeteria? Tired of asking what day it is? Never know when clubs meeting are? With the St. Augustine CHS App, your questions will be answered all in one place!

On February 19th, the first official St. Augustine App was launched! The talented team of students consisted of Pablo Araujo Camacho (Android Developer), Kenny Miu (iOS developer), and Charmaine Chun and Amanda Morelli (Project Managers). We asked the team of students some questions on their creation that benefits the entire school.

What inspired you guys to make the app?
As students of St. Augustine, we wanted to create a solution to solve the everyday problems a St. Augustine student or teacher faces including not knowing whether it is Day 1 or Day 2, or the price of the daily caf menu. Also, as students who aspire to pursue computer science and engineering careers, this app provided us the opportunity to learn about app development.

What inspired you guys to create the app?
The idea started in our grade 10 year: January 2016. We finally completed the app around the beginning of February 2019, and launched on February 19th.

What are some challenges you guys encountered along the way?
There were many. Some include: Not finding documentation or examples for our code. Synchronizing between Android and iOS. Balancing between working on the app, doing school work, and having other extracurriculars. Coming up with ideas for the app that a wide variety of people will enjoy and use. Making the app look good since we aren’t exactly design or art majors. Keeping track of what our code does. Overall, we had fun with it and did an incredible job considering the size of our team.

Is there anything you would like to tell titans?

First of all, we’d like to thank the teachers who supported us through this whole process, especially Mr. Tucci, Mr. Astorino, and Mr. Cadawas. As well, we’d like to thank some other members of our team: Marcos Araujo, Anika Jingco, and Matthew Morelli. Lastly, we’ve worked really hard on this app and we want everyone to enjoy using it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it, so download the app!!

We’d like to thank this amazing team for putting so much time and effort into this app. They have created something that will be used by hundreds of students and will continue to be used for many years.
