On the last week of April, six members of the St. Augustine DECA chapter – Vincent Bonus, Sheridan Fong, Caitlin Chan, Elaine Zhang, Gloria Zhou, and Wendy Zhou- along with their advisor, Ms. Fujiwara, brought their best to the International Career Development Conference stage in Orlando, Florida. Each member competed individually or as a team in a range of marketing, hospitality and tourism, finance, and entrepreneurship- based events against more than 15,000 competitors from 10 countries.
DECA, Distributive Education Clubs of America, is a student organization that can be found in over 3,500 high schools across the globe. The high school division allows students to engage and enhance their knowledge in the business industry.
The ICDC features students from around the world who won their state/provincial competitions. This year over 15,000 competitors from 10 countries gathered in the Sunshine State from April 25-May 2. The competitions range from role-play events, in which the student(s) act out a real-life business scenario in front of a judge, to writing and presenting business plans on fictitious business ideas.
Three out of the six Titans were internationally recognized for their success. Sheridan Fong, grade 12, placed top 10 in Apparel and Accessories Marketing(AAM). Elaine Zhang and Gloria Zhou, grade 12s, placed top 8 in Stock Market Game (SMG).
Besides competing in the leadership conference, students also had the opportunity to explore and enjoy the attractions of Orlando. These talented Titans experienced the magic of Disney’s Magic Kingdom and entertained themselves at Disney Springs. The fun was completed with a trip to Universal Studios.
Congratulations to the St. Augustine 2018-2019 DECA chapter and thank you to Ms. Brizzi, Ms. Cairns, and Ms. Fujiwara for your guidance.
