The break that we have all been waiting for is finally approaching! Christmas songs are on the radio and snow is fluttering through the air. The long-awaited break is an excellent time away from the stresses of school and excellent opportunity to spend valuable time with family and friends and give back to your community. Although the two weeks seem to fly by really quickly, here are some things you can do to maximize your enjoyment during the festive season. 

To start, here are some fun activities that you can enjoy right from the comfort of your home. 

 

  • Make gingerbread cookies and decorate a gingerbread house  

 

Christmas baking always brings the family together. Baking gingerbread cookies and decorating a gingerbread house is one of the best ways to get into the Christmas spirit. Here is a recipe you can follow to make amazing gingerbread cookies.

  • Binge watch Christmas movies 

 

Binging some of the holiday classics always rake in the Christmas spirit. Some of the best holiday favourites to watch amongst others include:

    5. A Christmas Carol
    6. Frozen II

  • Secret Santa with friends or family  

 

A great way to share while on a budget is to organize a secret Santa gift exchange with friends and family. You will find yourself in excitement while waiting to open your gift from your surprise secret Santa.

  • Decorate your Christmas Tree

 

A great activity to do with family and friends. You can decorate your Christmas tree with ornaments, ribbons and a star/angel at the top.

  • Make a homemade Christmas gift

 

A great way to spread love during the festive season is to give a loved one a homemade Christmas gift, such as an ornament or Christmas card to show your appreciation for them.

  • Skating at Nathan Phillips Square  

 

Be immersed in the downtown Christmas atmosphere, while skating to Christmas music alongside friends or family. Best yet, there is no cost to skate–however, if you wish to rent skates there is a small fee. Otherwise, enjoy a free activity while making new memories!

  • Christmas Shopping 

 

The mall is the best place to be during the Christmas season. You can see all of the Christmas decorations and listen to Christmas carols while shopping. There are thousands of people rushing around to buy gifts for loved ones. While you’re there, you could pick up a few gifts for family and friends and see the Hudson’s Bay decorated Christmas windows.

  • Watch the musical a Christmas Carol 

 

Watch the musical a Christmas Carol while celebrating Christmas and appreciating the arts. This classic Christmas music is playing in Toronto throughout the Christmas holidays at various theatres.

  • Visit the Distillery District 

 

The Christmas Market at the Distillery District is a surreal experience that fills the air with Christmas joy. Whether you go with friends or family, you won’t regret going here.

  • Tobogganing or Skiing

 

As children we would all love to go tobogganing or skiing during the winter. Why not bring that back? Find a nice hill and take all of your friends and family on a thrilling adventure through the snow.
