Over the week of November 18 – 22, Spectrum held several unique events as part of their Bullying Prevention Week to promote student inclusivity!
Starting on Tuesday, November 18, Titans were invited to wear spirit-wear or a blue shirt to prove and celebrate that we are a strong Titans Family. Our school spirit and welcoming community shows that Titans are a force to be reckoned with!
Wednesday began Spectrum’s amazing linked chain activity! Over the next two days, Spectrum invited all students to the back of the cafeteria to write positive messages. Those strips of paper were then linked together to create one giant chain! This activity has great symbolism and is an innovative way to demonstrate St. Augustine’s friendly and united community! The “Pass It On” activity also began! All Grade 12 students received a button on Wednesday morning. Each Grade 12 was asked to pass their button to someone that they did not know. Each recipient afterwards was asked to pass their button on to someone new, and to continue the train to passing the button on. This special activity will continue until the end of Bullying Prevention Week.
To end off the week, students were invited to wear the pink shirts that their homeroom previously decorated, in honour of the anti-bullying campaign. Pink shirts are important symbols for students all around the world to feel confident enough to wear any colour they desire! As students who are against bullying, pink shirt day has become a staple at our school! All students attended an amazing drama presentation hosted by the Grade 10 drama class, in collaboration with Spectrum. The performance held a powerful message, and all students were strongly impacted!
Throughout the week, Spectrum has also held several initiatives at the back of the cafeteria. Stickers were sold, students were invited to make friendship bracelets, and a poster was provided for students to sign! All of these events and initiatives during Spectrum’s Bullying Prevention Week promoted awareness for victims of bullying. As students, we must work towards an extinction of bullying to provide a safe and welcoming community for all!
