The Ontario Students Against Imparied Driving Council at St. Augustine promoted a virtual driving game challenge from May 25-29 to educate teens on the dangers of distracted driving. It displays elements of possible danger to students who play the game and inspires safe driving. The driving game challenged players to drive through the virtual town, neighbourhood, and beach without running off the road or into other objects. There were 3 levels in the game, progressively getting more difficult. Each level presented players with a different distraction that drivers often experience in real life. Players had to try their best to ignore distractions such as texts, car passengers, and surrounding noises, and continue driving safely.
Participants screenshotted the game and the top three highest scores won a shout-out on OSAID’s Instagram page! The winners were Jordan Ng and Caitlin Kwan. Jordan got the highest scores for levels 1 & 2. They both received a shoutout and were the safest drivers.
From this game, students were able learn about distracted driving and how even simple things like texting and eating can cause great damage. It was the perfect way for the club to engage students and promote their message about safe driving. Make sure to follow the OSAID council on Instagram @sta.osaid for more tips on safe driving!
