As we all may have experienced, COVID-19 has taken a lot from us. This year, more than ever, it is important to take the time to reflect upon what we are grateful for. Thanksgiving is the celebration of showing gratitude for what you have and the people around you. This thanksgiving, although we may not have the ideal circumstances, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate while still following all of the COVID-19 guidelines!
Oh, The Fall Leaves!
The leaves are falling, autumn is calling! The trees are changing to brilliant hues of reds, oranges, and yellows. The magnificent colours are sadly not a long-lasting sight, with the cold fall air, the leaves are quickly falling! So be sure to enjoy this thanksgiving weekend on a socially distanced walk, hike, or bike ride through the beautiful trails that Markham has to offer.
Perhaps enjoy the open landscape and pond at the Milne Dam Conservation Park or sip hot chocolate while walking along the historic scenery of Unionville Main Street and taking in the colours of fall!
Bake Pumpkin Pie and Apple Pie
Everybody loves a good pie and what better way to bring the fall atmosphere into your home than to bake apple and pumpkin pie! Spend time making these delicious desserts with your family and after you’re done, have a competition to see who can eat the most! There are dozens of unique recipes to choose from for these iconic Thanksgiving desserts, but we’ve linked a couple that you could follow to make the perfect pumpkin and apple pies!
FaceTime Your Family and Friends
Unfortunately, large gatherings aren’t allowed given recent circumstances. And while it’s always better to be safe than sorry, we have some solutions for you! Grab your phone, laptop, or iPad and FaceTime your family and friends to catch up and let them know that you are thankful for them. There’s no better way to show someone how much you truly appreciate them! Just because you can’t meet in person doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy thanksgiving with your family.
Donate to Local Food Drives
Thanksgiving is all about what you’re thankful for. We tend to take so many aspects of our lives for granted. But it’s important to take a step back and reflect for a while on others as well. The effects of the pandemic may have made us forget about those who are less fortunate and who may not have the financial means to experience a table full of food for thanksgiving! That’s why it’s important to give back to your community and make a difference, especially during the holidays. You can donate to a food bank to show your support for the community. Give back today! Take a look at the link and see how you can donate to the Markham Food Bank.
Create Fall Arts and Crafts
Everyone loves some fall decorations and what’s even better is when you can have fun making them yourself! There is no end to the wonderful creative decor that you can make. Some take no more than a few minutes, whereas if you’re really into art, you could spend hours or days working on something magnificent, paying attention to all of the important details! Take a look at Pinterest! It’s a wonderful arts and crafts platform that allows users to share their creativity. You can click on the link below to go on Pinterest and view the endless amounts of fall arts and crafts that they have to offer.
