International Women’s Day is almost here! Isn’t this exciting?

Here is a summary of the importance of International Women’s Day. It first began with people believing that women shouldn’t be completing censuses, vote, or do anything women usually do on a daily basis today. Instead, society believed a woman’s role was in the kitchen or taking care of the household chores. This started to change in the early 1900s, when women began fighting for their rights.  After a few years of protesting, on March 16, 1911, millions of men and women in Europe stood up against the stereotypes leading to a major impact that affects today’s lifetime. Upon discussion, March 8th marked the official date for the celebration of International Women’s Day and was first celebrated by the United Nations in 1975.

As a woman, I am proud of the brave women who decided to take a stand for themselves because it takes courage to stand up for what’s right. From their efforts, most women in the world today are free from society dictating their choices and lives. More importantly, it teaches us a moral in the end; the necessity of equality and the impact of taking a step to action. Hope you all have an amazing International Women’s Day!
