Earth Day is an important reminder that we need to work together to care for the environment. Since its inception on April 22, 1970, the event has united people worldwide over one main goal: to promote sustainable practices and create a clean planet for people and wildlife alike. Despite the lockdown and pandemic-related restrictions, we need to strive to inspire change for Earth Day and remain eco-friendly in our daily lives. To do so, we encourage staff and students to participate in Eco-Week: a series of Earth Day-related events held this week by St. Augustine’s Eco-Team. These events will include fun, educational activities like an Eco-Bingo and Kahoot! The schedule for the week can be found below:
- Monday, April 19: Eco-Bingo
- Tuesday, April 20: Natural Lighting Challenge
- Wednesday, April 21: Eco-Pledges Slideshow
- Thursday, April 22: Eco-Kahoot
- Friday, April 23: Movie Night
Other ways you can celebrate Earth Day at home include:
- Creating a Family Pledge: Get your family members together and discuss the different ways you can be more energy efficient. Write down some of these ideas on a piece of paper and hang them on your fridge as a daily reminder!
- Planting a Garden: If you have access to a backyard, now would be a great time to plant a garden. This garden can include anything from flowers to vegetables, and even trees!
- Shopping Sustainable Brands Online: Many of us may have picked up on online shopping due to the pandemic. To help protect the environment, try buying from a Toronto-based, sustainable brand like Kotn.
