Hey Titans! Eco week has finally come to an end! Last week, students at St. Augustine CHS were challenged to participate in five fun, eco-friendly events, and activities, hosted by St. Augustine’s very own EcoTeam. Let’s take a look back on this exciting week!

1. Eco-Bingo

To kick off the start of Eco week, EcoTeam posted a fun Eco-Bingo made by their members for Titans to complete. The fun activity was followed by a number of useful plant growing tips on their Instagram page, helping students grow healthy, strong and beautiful plants.

2. Natural Lighting Challenge

On Tuesday, EcoTeam challenged students at St.Augustine to minimize their use of artificial light sources. Additionally, EcoTeam provided a website, allowing participants to calculate their own carbon footprint! This allowed students to see how much their lifestyles may be impacting the environment.

3. Eco-Pledges

On Wednesday, homeroom classes were encouraged to create a class pledge, aiming to become more environmentally friendly. The following pledges were added to a slideshow where every homeroom pledge can be found:

Ms. Giannantonio’s class – “we pledge to walk or bike for transportation”

Ms. Lee’s class – “we pledge to reduce our energy consumption”

Mr. Adorante’s class – “we pledge to buy food from local grocery stores”

4. Eco-Kahoot

Thursday was Earth Day! To celebrate this wonderful day, EcoTeam sent out a fun Eco-Kahoot, quizzing students on their knowledge of our environment and being eco-friendly. On their Instagram, EcoTeam posted multiple fun facts about Earth Day and ways students can celebrate Earth Day from the comfort of their homes.

5. Movie Night

To end off Eco Week, EcoTeam posted a variety of fun snack ideas and eco-themed movie recommendations: The Lorax, Wall-E, and Princess Mononoke. EcoTeam also encouraged students to upcycle plastics using Eco Bricks. Lastly, EcoTeam put together a shower playlist for students to promote shorter showers in order to save water.

Message from EcoTeam:

“On behalf of the Eco Team, we would like to thank all our Titans for participating in this year’s Eco Week! Although Eco Week is over, EcoTeam would like to encourage students at St. Augustine to continue thinking of ways we can protect and celebrate our Earth, and its ecosystems by living sustainably and being eco-friendly!” – 2021 Eco Team
