Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh peacefully passed away at Windsor Castle on April 9th, 2021. Prince Philip dedicated his life to public service. He was a decorated war vet and has led many different community service initiatives. Most importantly, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Prince Philip stood by Queen Elizabeth’s side for 73 years and Her Majesty described him as her “strength”.
The Duke of Edinburgh was no stranger to Canada. He visited the country more than 20 times while accompanying his wife, the Queen. Prince Philip had a fondness for Canada and had a close relationship with the Canadian Armed Forces, being awarded 11 honorary appointments.
Prince Philip is the founder of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. His Royal Highness founded the award in 1956 and since then, 144 countries have joined to participate. The award aims to equip young people for success in life. It allows students to discover hidden talents, develop untapped potential and make a difference in the community. St. Augustine CHS is one of the many award units for the Duke of Edinburgh’s award. Many Titans have worked towards the award and earned it.
