If you’re a Netflix user, you may have come across the new hit movie, “Red Notice,” at one point in the past few days. Netflix released this original action-comedy on November 5, and the film has since then occupied first place in Canada’s top-tier movies. Starring Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson, and Ryan Reynolds, this film puts a unique twist on the cops and robbers trope, as the stars chase each other around the globe in search of Cleopatra’s three bejewelled eggs. Not to mention the plethora of double-crosses upon double-crosses — take it from me, trust no one. Though the movie is great for a few laughs, it also lacks depth and seems like a project made solely for profit. Look at the cast for instance: a group of A-list actors people love in movies, put together in this one film to reel in viewers – even Ed Sheeran makes a cameo!

Regardless of the cast, the movie has many likeable characters, albeit repetitive for each actor in respect to their range of roles. Gal Gadot plays a female Fatale who’s both gorgeous and destructive – almost like Wonder Woman, but villainous. Dwayne Johnson also plays the same serious, randomly humorous, and muscular character, seen in his newer movies like Walking Tall, Jumanji, and the Fast and Furious franchise. Finally, Ryan Reynolds plays a witty, goofy character with hilarious one-liners and self-deprecating humour. Sound familiar? It should be since he plays the same role in Deadpool, Free Guy, and The Hitman’s Bodyguard. But in the end, an actor’s job is to entertain, and these character archetypes are certainly entertaining; and the same could be said for the film itself — it’s a fun, easy watch if you’re looking to turn off your brain for two hours.
