Recently, St. Augustine had a silent auction with paintings done by our very own art students. Over 100 paintings were done by the students in honor of Remembrance Day, with 25 being chosen to take part in this auction. The auction was available in the front foyer of St. Augustine from Monday, November 22 up until Friday, November 26 at 2:30pm. The bidding for the 25 chosen paintings had started at $5 each, with all proceeds raised from the auction being donated to the Royal Canadian Legion.
The Royal Canadian Legion is the largest veteran support group in Canada. This organization cares for the people who have served our country. Their mission is to serve the veterans that fought for this country, to promote remembrance and to serve their communities and country. The Royal Canadian Legion upholds this mission by selling poppies and other items to raise money. The donations from St. Augustine’s auction also goes to this organisation.
In total, the silent auction raised almost $200 for the Royal Canadian Legion. The paintings that were done by the students but were not chosen for the auction are also being sent to veterans. They will be sent as Christmas gifts along with messages from students thanking the veterans for their service.
