December is the month known for the holiday season and for students, winter break, but on December 3rd, it marks a very important and significant day to the world. For many people, they haven’t really heard about this day before — perhaps many don’t talk about enough and not a lot of focus and attention is put onto this topic and special day.
December 3rd is dedicated to World Day for the Handicapped. It is a day of respect and reflection for those who are handicapped and suffer from disabilities. People regardless of who they are should be welcomed and accepted in our society and this special day is a day where we should reflect on our actions and learn to respect those who have differences from us. It is the day where we should acknowledge those with disabilities and provide support and help to them.
This day was founded back in the year 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution (UNGAR) as a day to draw attention to those with disabilities and provide support and help to them when they need it. This day continues to thrive up to the present day and is a respected day for those with disabilities. Remember to always be respectful and kind to those around you regardless of their differences and to always show love, respect, and inclusion wherever you are.
