As citizens around the world witness the catastrophic casualties occuring due to Russia invading Ukraine territory, many social, political and economic effects have followed.
Socially, citizens in both Russia and Ukraine have been displaced due to the military invasions in the area making many cities unsafe to currently inhabit. Many countries overseas, such as the United States of America and Canada, are currently accepting any Ukrainian refugees wanting to escape the invasion due to the displacement. Additionally, Russian citizens are protesting against the Russian government and its decision to invade Ukraine due to the hardships the citizens will likely suffer. As the World Cup quickly approaches, the organization has suspended Russia’s soccer team until further notice.
Economically, many nations are entirely boycotting Russia and no longer accepting imports and exports from the nation. Western shareholders in major Russian companies are also selling their stocks, decreasing the value of these companies. Nations and individuals have done this out of hope that Russian leader Vladimir Putin will halt military action against Ukraine as the boycott will negatively affect Russia’s economy. With the major hit this will take on the economy, Russian citizens will also suffer as a result making the situation problematic.
Politically, within the next months or even weeks Eastern European countries may be dictated under the new leadership of Vladimir Putin if the Russian military succeeds in Ukraine. As a result the current political systems in Eastern Europe may look entirely different within the next chunk of time. Other nation leaders apart of the United Nations (UN) have been working with the UN to determine next steps of nations not directly involved in the conflict.
