It’s reaching that time of the year when all priorities tend to feel draining. As March break approaches, students will finally have the opportunity to take a much needed break. Here are 3 inspirational movie recommendations that will help you feel motivated once again.

  1. Hidden Figures

Hidden Figures is a true story about the heroes behind the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit in 1962. Despite the credit being given to white men for many years, African American Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn, and Mary Jackson were the brilliant women behind the operation that paved the way for space exploration this century. The movie highlights the hard work these women put in to send Glenn into orbit and to break down harmful stereotypes about the performance of women in STEM careers, especially Black women.

  1. Eddie the Eagle

Eddie the Eagle is a true story about a former Olympic athlete Micheal ‘Eddie’ Edwards. Eddie is an underdog in his sport, ski jumping but due to his determination to compete, a retired coach agrees to train him for the next Olympics. Despite many individuals in the movie constantly telling Eddie his goals were out of reach, he never let that get to him. The movie shows that no matter who tells you otherwise, with perseverance and self confidence you can achieve your greatest potential, even if it seems unattainable.

  1. Cool Runnings

Cool Runnings is another true Olympic based story. Jamaican athletes Junior Bevil, Sanka Coffie, Derice Bannock and Yul Brenner competed as a bobsled team in the 1988 Winter Olympics despite never seeing snow until arriving at the competition. Due to their strong dreams of competing in the Olympics they were determined to get, even if that meant competing in a sport they never had trained in prior. Although the team did not stand at the podium, they demonstrated team values and how trying your best is what matters most.
