It might be hard to think of ways to earn the 40 hours of community service you need for school, or even to become more involved with the community. However, there are many different ways to volunteer, and everybody is sure to find one that they enjoy!
Here are 5 ways you can earn volunteer hours:
- Volunteer with the Markham Public Library
There are many different programs at the many libraries across Markham, and a lot of them need volunteers to assist, whether that is for a public speaking class, reading buddies, or even for crafts. While meeting new people around the community, you also get insight into the work that goes into these programs and can find jobs that you can consistently go to weekly. Learn more here.
- Tutor Others
If there is a subject that you are very strong in, tutoring other students is a great way to earn your volunteer hours! There are many ways you can become a tutor, whether you become involved with your school’s tutoring programs, or through many committees you find on social media. Take the chance to strengthen your own knowledge and help others while earning your hours!
- Keep an eye out for volunteer opportunities at school
There are volunteer opportunities at St. Augustine! There are usually announcements or emails that inform you of these opportunities, so make sure you keep an eye out for them! This is a great way to get involved with the school and know your schoolmates better.
- Help out with summer camps
Summer camps are a great way to have fun over the summer while contributing to the community. Camps can vary between sports and activities–choose one that interests you. Soccer, robotics, dance, and outdoor adventure camps are all great options. Volunteering at a summer camp also gives you the opportunity to meet new people and gain new experiences.
- Join a youth-led organization
Joining a youth-led organization gives you the opportunity to take a leadership role outside of school. These organizations can be compared to clubs and councils in the community. Choose an organization that speaks to you, whether it’s about animal rights, mental health, the environment, or more. Volunteering at these organizations is a way to meet new people.
Earning volunteer hours may seem tricky, but it will be a breeze. There are many opportunities for you to meet new people and contribute to our community. Aside from the graduation requirement, volunteering is a great way to explore career options, gain new skills, improve your community, and a chance to be in a leadership position.
