Did you know that in 2021, 5.8 million Canadians, including 1.4 million children, lived in food-insecure households? People living in our own neighbourhoods and communities are faced with inadequate access to food due to financial constraints, taking a toll on public health and wellbeing beyond just poor nutrition and diet. This is an issue that we all can help resolve. St. Augustine’s social justice committee, Matt 25, is holding Titans Scare Hunger 2022 food drive! This is an awesome way to contribute through our school community and show support for families facing food insecurity.

The event will be running from October 25 until November 4, where students will be able to bring in non-perishable food items into their homeroom classrooms. Collection boxes will be placed in each classroom, where classes compete with each other for the most food donated.  The homeroom class with the highest count will be announced when the event ends.

All items will be donated to the Good Shepherd. Matt 25 has a goal of collecting 2500 food items, so if you are able to donate, please bring your non-perishable items! Packages of dried pasta, canned soup and vegetables, cereal, instant oatmeal and noodles, and school snacks can make a huge difference!

Show your Titan spirit and be an advocate for injustice within your community. Raise your voice to scare hunger and make a difference in the lives of others. Visit Matt 25’s instagram, @sta.matt25, for updates and more information about Titans Scare Hunger!
