Every year on April 22, millions of people celebrate Earth Day, so we can raise awareness about protecting the planet from problems such as pollution. Here’s 10 things we can do to play our part in saving the Earth!

  1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

This is the number one way to help the Earth. By following this motto in order, it creates a lifestyle that reduces the amount of waste produced, and the waste that exists can be properly taken care of. Reduce what you buy, so this means that you are making a conscious effort to only buy what you need, and buying things that are going to last a while. Reusing clothes, utensils, and furniture is also an excellent way to reduce the amount of waste. Recycling and sorting trash means that it’ll be taken care of properly, which means that less trash ends up in landfills.

  1. Be Energy Efficient

By being energy efficient, we are helping to reduce the amount of greenhouse emissions being produced, which is a large contributor to climate change. Turning off the lights when leaving a room, unplugging cords, and buying energy efficient devices are all easy ways to do this! Most energy efficient appliances have a little symbol that says ‘Energy Star’, so you can easily tell.

  1. Volunteer at Park Clean Ups

This is one of the biggest ways we can contribute to helping to save the Earth. By working as a team, many habitats and environments will be able to stay litter-free, ensuring that citizens can walk in pristine parks, and animals won’t eat any litter.

  1. Start Composting

Composting is a great way to produce healthy soil for backyard gardens, and to improve water quality. It helps to reduce food waste, which is the biggest amount of waste produced each year. Food waste is also a large contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, so composting is a great solution!

  1. Try Walking Or Biking

With cars being the most popular mode of transportation right now, walking or biking might seem really tedious, but it is one of the most eco-friendly ways we can help the environment. It’s also cost-effective, and great for your own health.

  1. Try Public Transport or Carpooling

If your destination is too far to bike, try public transport or carpooling! Mass transport may take longer, but it greatly reduces the greenhouse gas emissions. Carpooling is also a great option! If you must use a car, look into cars with less or even no emissions.

  1. Use reusable!

Instead of using plastic bags, straws, and bottles, use reusable ones! This will reduce the plastic waste in landfills and is much more durable and long lasting!

  1. Shop Green Clean

Green cleaning products use non-toxic and biodegradable ingredients, so not only is it good for the environment, it’s good for your health as well!

  1. Use LED light bulbs

LED light bulbs last much longer and are much brighter than other lightbulbs, and on top of that, it has much less emissions.

  1. Eat Organic

Although it may be more expensive, eating organic isn’t only good for you, as not using pesticides is beneficial to the farmers, nearby water sources, and biodiversity!

Even though it might seem like we can’t do a lot, each tiny action we can do is still a step in the right direction. It’s important that we incorporate it into our daily lifestyle routine, and overtime, that will make a positive impact. Happy Earth Day!
