As the autumn season approaches, temperatures drop, leaves fall, and pumpkins begin popping up on porches. While the number of activities suited for warm weather are reduced, autumn gives way to numerous opportunities for having fun! Here are some popular and unique events that you can participate in during late October and November:
1. See a Salmon Run
When temperatures drop, Pacific Salmon migrate upstream from Ontario’s Great Lakes to lay their eggs in the shallows before winter settles in. Their migration patterns are a great sight to see as the Salmon are “climbing” their way up the lakes and flailing their fins in the air! Some places to see these fish are in Owen Sound, Port Hope, and Collingwood (Blue Mountain).
2. See Cranberry Harvests
Watch how seasonal fruits are harvested and even harvest some yourself! Locations for this opportunity include Muskoka Lakes Farm & Winery (1074 Cranberry Road, Bala) and Upper Canada Cranberries (2283 Stagecoach Rd, Osgoode/ Ottawa).
3. See Lighted Pumpkin Displays
To brighten up your evening, it would be a good idea to take a tour by foot or car to check out some pumpkin displays. For example, at Pumpkinferno, you can take a tour through this spectacular outdoor art exhibit of over 7,000 handcrafted pumpkins lit along a picturesque 19th century background at Upper Canada Village, Morrisburg.
And that’s it! Happy Fall!
