According to a recent article by Now Toronto, Disney+ has decided to follow in the footsteps of Netflix to fix the problem of password sharing across Canada. The streaming platform announced pricing and policy changes in September 2023 that will no longer allow users to share their accounts with family or friends who don’t live within the same household. This policy will come into effect starting November 1st 2023.
The move is aimed to prevent unauthorized access to the platform and ensure that all users pay for the content they consume. Disney+ has been growing rapidly since its launch in 2019. The company is keen to maintain its momentum by protecting its revenue streams.
The new policy will require users to verify their location and identity before accessing the platform. This will be done through a combination of IP tracking and two-factor authentication. The company has also stated that it will be monitoring user accounts for any suspicious activity and will take appropriate action in each situation.
The decision to stop the problem of password sharing has been met with mixed reactions from users. While some have welcomed the move as a way to protect their accounts from unauthorized access, others have criticized it as an unnecessary restriction on their freedom to share content with friends and family.
Overall, the move by Disney+ to stop the problem of password sharing is a significant step towards protecting its revenue streams and ensuring that users pay for the content they consume. While it may be inconvenient for some users, it is a necessary measure to prevent unauthorized access to the platform and maintain the integrity of the service.
