How far are you willing to go for your loved ones? A father of two young girls living in Duncan, British Columbia did what most people are too fearful of.

On the opening weekend of the Taylor Swift movie, Jordan Kawechuk went to the theatre to watch the movie alone. Though he described his initial experience as unwelcoming and unsettling due to the atmosphere of the old theatre room and the anticipation of the young girls all dressed in different “Era” costumes, his impression had changed. Though this act may be deemed questionable and unnecessary, Kawchuk had his priorities straight as a father of his two daughters. He had promised that he would watch the Taylor Swift movie with them. However, with the role of a long-distance father 460 km away, he had to compromise. He made sure to keep his promise to his daughters. Thus, he thought the ideal situation was to watch the movie at the same time as them.

During the movie, the lights were out and Kawchuck was surrounded by all the die-hard Taylor Swift fans dressed in bright costumes. He confessed he had a moment to reflect and reminisce about his memories with his daughters relating to Taylor Swift song reviews and comparing their favourite songs. As Kawchuk described that night’s experience for him, he ended the night with a call from his two daughters. The three got to share a moment and created a new memory. He described it to be “one marvellous call.”

This story was important to share due to its significance in community and family. In the present, very few people are brave enough or spare the time to think about how their actions affect their children or the ones around them. Jordan Kawchuk is a major example of how a father’s love can go so far as to disregard society’s social norms and opinions. He was the only single father there and the first to arrive at the theatre, but that did not stop him from having the time of his life while fulfilling his promises to the ones he loved. This example of a father’s behaviour can be practiced by all parents to show what dedication could look like.
