Welcome back to the Titan’s Tycoon series, this week, I am writing about how to start a business and why you should seriously consider doing so! As students at St.Augustine Catholic High School, we have been introduced to a multitude of different pathways, namely, the business world and medical world, financial field, and many more. Something we can do to further prepare ourselves for any profession , no matter the focus, is to run a business or become a student entrepreneur. Of course, this is no easy task, as to run a successful business you must be willing to put in time and effort. Running a business is a unique experience that can be attained nowhere else, as it teaches you and helps you in many ways:
- Real World Experiences/Problem Solving
As mentioned before running a business provides unique experiences like solving problems with customers, or gives you a taste of the world. This is essential to any field of business or post-secondary education path. Nowadays, Universities and Colleges don’t simply look at marks, but rather they look at what you did outside of school to support your community and build skills that allow you to thrive in life. Running a business teaches valuable life lessons that can only benefit you.
- Financial Independence
What comes with reeling in a steady customer count, is a steady stream of income. Income may not even be the reason that you start a business, but it is a plus for doing so.
- Portfolio Building
Your portfolio is everything you achieve in life, from winning a math contest in second grade to getting valedictorian in 12th grade. A business is a very formidable addition to any portfolio because of all the skills it has to offer.
- Pursuit of Passion
Another reason that people start businesses is because they are trying to pursue a passion.
Now that we know why you would start a business, how would you do so?
- Make a plan covering all aspects of your business, don’t set anything in stone and be able to move stuff around and change things if they don’t work out
- Make a schedule and try to go as strictly by that schedule as possible, your business won’t start itself unless you keep at the grind and stay persistent
- It’s your business, do what you want! Trust that your gut knows what is best for your business and execute the idea how you like
- Stay organized, and don’t procrastinate to let stuff get out of hand, the schedule should be your best friend
- Take life lessons and learn from them, the only way to go from a bad experience is up!
- Take risks, and have fun with it, but remember to be responsible, don’t put all of your eggs in one basket and risk the entire business, take calculated risks that have a higher chance of returning more than required
That concludes the third edition of Titan’s Tycoon, a series promoting student entrepreneurship! Stay tuned for more, and have a great day!
