Bridget Jones Diary is a well-known romantic comedy that became especially popular with women in their teenage years. A classic series starring Renée Zellweger, Bridget Jones’s Diary was announced to have a new addition releasing in 2025. First released in 2001, the film quickly became a must-watch amongst teenagers, but what was not predicted was the underlying message that it spread across to viewers. Bridget Jones is described as an awkward, insecure, and single person who lacked a chance to showcase herself in a brighter stance. She was often called out for her weight, which was emphasized not only by those around her but also by herself. Due to her weight obsession, viewers soon saw themselves in a different light, agreeing with the character in how their weight was beyond average and needed fixing. Although it didn’t seem like a problem when the film was first released, audiences are now realizing that there was a major problem in what they were leading teenagers to believe. With an addition to the series planning to be released next year, the importance and awareness of the issue is being brought up consistently, with fans demanding to know whether the new film will steer away from the weight goals and focus on the importance of confidence instead. This includes changing the main message of body shaming Bridget Jones and casting inclusive characters for the new film. Anticipation is high for the new release and fans have high expectations from the directors and creators to produce a spectacular movie.
