HO HO HO! During the holiday season, everyone is on about and going around doing their unique traditions. One of the most popular and cherished Christmas traditions for families is watching Christmas movies together. There are a variety of Christmas movies ranging from heartwarming to romantic, and from magical to humorous; there will always be a movie that your family will talk about for decades to come. Among these holiday specials which range from timeless faves to more modern favourites, there will surely be one movie that will be sure to bring joy, laughter, and a sense of togetherness to your festive season.

Below is a list of must-watch Christmas movies that will bring a smile to your family nights together in front of the television.

Home Alone

A Christmas without Home Alone would not be a proper Christmas. The night before a family vacation to Paris, eight-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) acts out, so his mother (Catherine O’Hara) forces him to sleep in the attic. He believes his wish to have no family has been fulfilled when he awakens to an empty house after the McCallisters unexpectedly depart for the airport without Kevin. When he learns that two con artists (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) want to rob the McCallister residence and that he is the only one responsible for protecting the family home, his enthusiasm fades.

Home Alone is the perfect mix of Christmas spirit and laughter. There are lots of different parts to this movie, such as the comedic ones, which will keep the children entertained, while the more emotional parts will relate with the adults. On the other hand, who wouldn’t love a good old-fashioned booby trap?

For a magical holiday experience, The Polar Express is a must-watch and a holiday classic. On Christmas Eve, a train headed for the North Pole stops outside the window of a small child who has become suspicious about Santa Claus. After accepting the conductor’s invitation to board, he sets out on a tense journey to Santa’s headquarters, where he quickly befriends people and gains a priceless insight into the actual meaning of Christmas.

It does not matter how old or young someone is. The Polar Express is an unforgettable movie that will make viewers enjoy the trip to the North Pole. Instilling surprise and wonder throughout the holiday season is made possible by the concepts of believing in the impossible and clinging to the enchantment of Christmas.

Elf

Elf is a modern Christmas classic that blends slapstick humour, heartwarming moments, and the infectious energy of Will Ferrell as the lead role into one. As a toddler, Buddy (Will Ferrell) was inadvertently sent to the North Pole, where he grew up surrounded by Santa’s elves. Adult Buddy, still feeling out of place, goes to New York in full elf uniform to find his biological father. It turns out that this is cynical businessman Walter Hobbs (played by James Caan). Walter grudgingly tries to establish a relationship with the innocent Buddy when a DNA test confirms this, with increasingly disastrous outcomes. The difference between Elf and other Christmas movies is that it is such a standout holiday movie because of its perfect mix of humour, sweetness, and holiday spirit. It is a delight for people of all ages because of Will Ferrell’s endearing and humorous portrayal as Buddy. Families enjoy watching the film together over the holidays because of its upbeat, joyful tone, catchy one-liners, and touching message about family.
