As St. Augustine enters its 2nd semester, we are all thinking about how this school year is flying by! Exams are complete, and now it is time to do it again. The Alumni of STA is strong, and as we might already know from the series title, our Titans are thriving in the post-secondary educational environment. Today, we take a look at 2 students
“Hi, my name is Ashvin Rajeevan. I am a first year Health Science Student at Western University..”
As I have with all of the other interviewees, I was able to chat with him about his program.
Ashvin: “So far, I find my program very interesting. I get the opportunity to learn about science and more intriguing topics, like the biological importance of sleep, neuroplasticity implementations, and more. Health Science is offered at all colleges/universities, but there are some specific benefits of Health Sci at Western. 1st off, no math courses are needed. 2nd, only 5 courses per semester. Finally, some courses have fully recorded lectures to help you stay on everything. Cons-wise, the only thing I can think of is the level of memorization demanded by the first 2 Health Science Courses. The readings are incredibly long and boring, but you must remember statistics and facts that will be called upon later in the course. In certain cases, the grades will curve down unless the class average is between 68-72.”
Ashvin is making sure to make the most of his 1st year at Western, his favourite restaurant is Babaz Shawarma. He has had fun in his classes, one of his classes even had a surprise visit by a huge man in a gorilla costume. The gorilla dragged 2 smaller people out of the class!
Now that we have learned about Ashvin, now we will teleport to University of Guelph to visit Jaden Nitsolis
Jaden is a 1st year student at the University of Guelph, he is studying Mechanicl Engineering.
Rishabh: How do you like your program? Give an example of some pros and cons.
Jaden: “I am really enjoying my program, even though it is very challenging at times. Some pros are the skills it teaches you, namely: problem solving, time management, and others. In terms of cons, the workload is hard to keep up with. When you factor in the difficulty of each course, studying for each course takes time. ”
Jaden also wanted to talk about what he would say to Gr. 12s in the same position that he was in last year.
Jaden: “If you are passionate about something, follow it instead of shying away from it. I almost didn;t go into engineering because I thought it would be too hard. I can confidently say now that I’m glad I chose to follow it. I have learnt more than I could imagine in my time here, and am ready for more!”
Jaden seems to be learning a lot! But along with it, he is having fun while working. He takes pleasure in working late nights with classmates on semester-long projects (CPTs). He enjoys the problem solving aspect of it and the productive time.
In and around the campus, Jaden has picked out some spots that are must-eats. The Mongolian BBQ at the University Centre, and a bit farther out, Mac n Wings.
That completes the 3rd edition of this series. I hope you have enjoyed the first 3, there are still some left, so stay tuned!
