On November 11th, the colours of red and black filled the halls of St. Augustine CHS, acting as a reminder of the endless struggle and sacrifice on which the foundations of today’s free society was built.
In a heartrending performance that brought the entire school body to silence, ninth-grade students created a dramatic envisioning of soldiers in the afterlife with emotion and heart that impressed the other students tremendously. We are exceptionally proud of them and can’t wait to see more of their work later this year.
The school choir sang Flanders Fields, a solemn poem about the soldiers that gave up their lives in the fight for freedom during World War 1. Their harmonization was wonderful and truly encaptured the pride and sorrow war heralds.
Student cadets attended the assembly in full uniform. Together with Ms. Vander Doelen, they hung a poppy-laced wreath in honour of the fallen. During the bugle call, they stood tall and proud in the memory of our former veterans.
The remembrance day assembly was an appropriately grave ceremony that brought the talents of multiple students together. Lest we Forget.
