Are you looking forward to May 22, 2023? This may seem like a very specific date, but I hope it rings a bell. As per tradition, people may see this as a day to solemnly celebrate the birthday of Queen Victoria of Great Britain. On the other hand, some individuals see it as a long weekend to kick off summer. Others may recall this significant date as one of the only few times fireworks are launched at night.

Whatever way you may celebrate this occasion, here are some of my personal recommendations as to activities to do with family and friends this Victoria Day– in Ontario!

  1. Victoria Day Tea and Fashion Show in Kingsville, ON

At the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village, an English-style tea service and fashion show will highlight food and clothing culture throughout the history of Europe.

  1. Victoria Day Weekend Fireworks in Tecumseh, ON

Presented by the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach, the Annual Victoria Day Fireworks Show will begin at 6 PM with live music, balloon twisters, hot dogs, pop, and treats. The fireworks will start at dusk, at approximately 9:45 PM.

  1. Niagara on the Lake Shaw Festival

Shaw Festival has been creating memorable theatrical encounters for 60 seasons, including the romantic musical comedy Damn Yankees, the psychological thriller Gaslight, and a surreal tour de force Too True to Be Good.

  1. Tubing and Rafting in Paris, Ontario

The Grand River Rafting offers options along the Grand River from beginner to advanced rafters. Beginners often opt for the Five Oaks to Brant Park tubing. This opportunity opens up on Victoria Day Weekend.

Regardless of your perception of Victoria Day, Canada’s ties with Britain will remember that Queen Victoria played a supportive role in the development of the Canadian Dominion and thus industrial expansion, economic progress, and empire.
