As flowers bloom and raindrops fall, a new season approaches. Love lingers in the air, specifically in romantic comedies. Here is your rom-com watchlist for the spring season:

1. 13 Going On 30

“Thirty, flirty, and thriving.”

Notoriously known for its nostalgic, bright qualities, this movie screams spring. On her thirteenth birthday, Jenna Rink wishes to escape her adolescence and be “thirty, flirty, and thriving.” The following morning, she wakes up as a 30-year-old magazine editor living in a luxury New York apartment, just as she had always dreamed. As she attempts to adjust to her new reality, she falls in love with her estranged childhood best friend, Matt, and begins to discover that adult life is not what she imagined. This pure, joyful, and humorous romantic comedy is the perfect way to ring in the spring season.

2. Pride and Prejudice (2005 Version)

“You have bewitched me body and soul. And I love…I love…I love you.”

It truly is a rite of passage for every teenage girl to experience the Mr. Darcy hand flex. In Pride and Prejudice (2005), the film adaptation, Elizabeth Bennet meets the handsome Mr. Darcy, whom she believes she could never marry. As they meet time and time again, she finds herself falling in love with the man she has sworn to hate. Set in England during the 1800s, this film’s greenery and beautiful castles transports the audience into the story. 

3. Enchanted

“I’ve been dreaming of a True Love’s Kiss, and a prince I’m hoping comes with this.”

Disney’s Enchanted, will make you dream of singing in the middle of Central Park while surrounded by songbirds. When Princess Giselle is sent from her magical, animated land to modern Manhattan on her wedding day, she is shocked to realize that “happily ever after” is just a phrase thrown around and not a reality for many. As Giselle falls in love with a man from Manhattan, she is forced to face the reality of love outside of her fairytale world. With colourful dresses and merry tunes, Enchanted is the perfect spring film.

4. 10 Things I Hate About You

“But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.”

Perfect for high school seniors, 10 Things I Hate About You is one of the most well-loved rom-coms of the 2000s. When a family rule forbids Bianca Stratford from dating until her rebellious sister, Kat, has a date, Bianca is determined to find her sister a suitor. As Bianca falls for the new kid, Cameron, they attempt to get Kat to fall for the bad-boy, Patrick Verona. Through paint ball fights, poems of love, and prom, this swoon-worthy film will make you fall head over heels into spring.

5. 27 Dresses

“Love is patient, love is kind, love means slowly losing your mind.”

Have you ever felt as if you are the only one who has not experienced love? Well, in 27 Dresses, Jane has been the bridesmaid in her friends’ weddings 27 times, and watches as the man she’s in love with falls for her flirtatious younger sister, Tess. When a reporter, Kevin, wants to do a story on her involvement in numerous weddings, Jane finds herself falling for him. With colourful bridesmaids’ dresses, a playful rendition of Benny and the Jets in the bar, and relatable characters, this film will make you wish you had a wedding to attend.

6. Mamma Mia!

“Life is short. The world is wide. I want to make some memories.”

Mamma Mia, here we go again. As spring approaches summer, this musical film embraces life on the Greek islands with songs by ABBA. As Sophie Sheridan’s wedding approaches, she invites three men from her mother’s past to discover who her true father is. Filled with catchy songs and dances along the ocean tides, this movie is perfect for your Greek holiday from the couch.
